How to Translate
While not entirely accurate, this translation of the Iranian President's latest letter to President Bush seems to capture the essence....
"Words do not express thoughts very well; everything immediately becomes a little different, a little distorted, a little foolish. And yet it also pleases me and seems right that what is of value and wisdom to one man seems nonsense to another."

What was interesting to me about the letter was how it combined insult toward the West (the United States is corrupt...Democracy was failed globally...) with respectful, seemingly sincere commentary (noting that Bush follows the prophet Jesus...appending "Praise Be Unto Him" after each mention of the Son's name as a show of respect).
What surprised me about it, aside from what you've mentioned, is how childish it appears.
It's like diplomacy between nations held at a 2nd grade level.
Dear George,
You are mean. I hate you. Democracy is dumb. Why does everyone hate you? You should be nice. Jesus was nice.
