The Brilliance of Kos

Posted by Jabawacefti

Love this.

Yep, Republicans and conservative are just evil racists. Doesn't this make everything more simple?

If I were from the South, I would be infuriated by the systemic and pervasive condescension with which some Northerners view the South.

That happens every once in a while. Then I just have my boy bring me a mint julep or go to a public hanging and all is right with the world.

Whereas if I were black, and in the south, I would be infuriated by people beating the shit out of me for my skin color. Or enslaving my ancestors for hundreds of years in a systemic and pervasive fashion.

Nutty, but true.

That said, you'd think that the entire southen section of the United States was populated by Larry the Cable Buy clones, ala The Boys From Brazil, to hear some "Northerners" talk about it.

Personally, I like Alabama a lot. It's got good weather, its charming, and the people could n ot possibly be nicer, sweeter, or more hospitable. But then, I'm not black. And while I've enjoyed Alabama, the sad and simple fact is that were my skin darker, I would probably not enjoy Alabama.

Oh, and that Kos article is stupid.

Yea, "all" republicans are evil. And "all" democrats are good.

Just like "all" Muslims are terrorists. Or "all" Christians are whackos.

Or "all" white people like muzak.

Ugh. One things for sure, "all" reasonable people understand this sort of rambling invective for the disjointed poison it is.

I actually quite liked the part of the comments thread that I got through. I love that about the Internets, the way that anyone with an opinion (i.e., anyone in that wonderful old phrase) can say whatever they want and people will then have a conversation.

We Southerners have no need for anyone's condescension, whether it's liberals bemoaning our racism or conservatives tut-tutting over how badly we're treated by the big bad Northerners, which serves as a handy cover for said conservative to overlook the abounding racism in both our backyards.

When Danny flipping Glover can't get a cab in NYC, we are not dealing with a regional problem. When most people don't know that "in colonial times one out of every five people in New York was a slave," it's not regional. Hating on and defending the South and its racism is fun, but ultimately pointless. Deal with the racism.

I just shopped at Wal Mart. I feel so unclean.
Now if only it weren't the only place around where I can get a bra to fit!

I know and work with lots of black people who haven't been beaten for their skin color in at least a week and slavery existed in the north as well as the south. Nutty but true.

I also know people black, white, and hispanic that would rather live in Alabama/North CArolina/Florida than they would New York/Michigan/Connecticut.

Wow.

I never thought the day would come when the comment section would turn to bras and whether they fit.

Well, maybe that's not entirely true.

Of course. I'm not condemning the South. I'm just saying that the history of certain states, along with current and recognized discriminations, does raise questions about whether or not the civil rights laws we implemented ought to be changed.

Those nine states were singled out for concrete reasons, not simple whim.

And lets get some more bras into these comment sections.
