The Left You Can Talk To

There is some hope, perhaps, for the Left.

There is now posted a Euston Manifesto, which appears to operate as a policy blueprint for purported "democrats and progressives."

Enough to turn the tide against the Michael Moores of the party? Time will tell. If they take this seriously, the Democrats might actually win an election. And for good reason.

That reason being that they're moderate, reasoned, and intelligent in their argument.

I firmly believe that these sorts of beliefs represent how most people feel about America. Without a firm "brand identity," and with weak leadership and a scattered mission-statement, the democrats have been outmanuvered and out-spun, and it's nobodies' fault but theirs.

And in part, the Dems have simply run out of ideas.

This "manifesto," or whatever you want to call it, is at least a good start.

I don't think they've so much run out of ideas (because how do you do that?) as much as they've decided to run away from ideas at a bewildering rate.

Oh, you can definitely run out of ideas.

It appears to me, in large part, that the party is tethered to the FDR welfare state, and seemingly satisfied to leave it at that.

But this conversation could go on for hours...
