Who Will It Be?

Apparently, J.K. Rowling has informed readers (and the public at large) that two of the main characters will die by the end of Book 7, the final chapter in her seven part Harry Potter series.

Who will it be?

If I were to venture a guess, I'd say Harry and Hagrid.

Thoughts? Guesses?

Ooh, ooh...I'll guess.

My picks:

Hagrid and Snape. Hagrid, because killing him would make kids weep like little...well...babies.

Snape, because it would make him into a true Anti-hero, and because I frickin' love his character, and my favorites always seem to kick the bucket.

But realistically, I think one of those characters is probably Voldemort.

And is JK Rowling hot, or what?

And this quote is why I love her plotting so much (and why I continue to be a Joss Whedon nut):

"The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly. One character got a reprieve. But I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die," she said. "A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil here. They don't target extras do they? They go for the main characters. Well, I do."

I guess that begs the question as to whether you think Snape is good or bad.

And while I think one of the characters is Voldemort, I don't think that's one of the two that she's talking about. Although who knows...

And frankly, I thought more would die.

And let God sort 'em out!

And yes, I think Snape's a hero. He's an incredible character either way - conflicted, nasty, self-loathing, and sometimes noble; I'd argue that he's Rowling's best fictional creation.

**SPOILERS FOR BOOK SIX - DO NOT LOOK BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ**

Having Snape kill Dumbledore was a masterstroke. It's made Snape into a permanent outcast, and, if I'm right, was the reluctant act of a reformed (if still-questionable) person.

God has nothing to do with Harry Potter. ;-)

I'm in agreement. With Codemorse. Not Scott.
